Where are all my Blog Buddies?

Hey...It's been a week and a half since my surgery - finally I can sit here at the computer without propping myself up like an invalid......and now there's no one here to talk to in Blogland! Where did you all go?

hi rachel and lori...my surgery went well...i have Grave's Disease according to the pathology report so it's good to have gotten it out. but i had a mild Thyroid Storm after and then critically low calcium and had to be readmitted to the hospital after i got home. all total i spent 5 days in the hospital - the last 3 days in the new Heart Wing at St. Agnes because my heart rate was up to 150 beats per minute - resting. it was horrible. but...i survived. i think i'm doing better each day. until i think about that and i get all panicked and anxious again. it was scary. royce told me later he at one point in the ER thought i would die. it was creepy.

it all sounds terribly frightening and yucky. I'm so sorry you had to do all this but now you have great stories to tell. What is a thyroid storm?

thyroid storm is when you're getting the thyroid out during the surgery and it releases an extra load of thyroid into your system. that in turn causes everything else to go haywire...the pituitary gland is affected, the heart is affected. i got a fever and also my heart started racing for days. it gives me the creeps to talk about. glad i'm HERE and it's DONE.
